And Ohno reached out, slowly, apprehensively, as did the other. He shuddered slightly as his fingertips met the cold surface, an action mirrored by the figure within. But he pressed on, until his hand was submerged. Another hand grasped it, a cool and gentle one. Its skin was soft. It was time.
Ohno tightened his grip and braced himself. Bit by bit, his hand came back out the surface, holding another. A hand, an arm, a shoulder, a torso, and finally, a whole figure stood in front of him. The face was familiar, it tugged at his memories, strings long ago left untouched. It was not his own, but he felt a strange affection towards it - as much as, if not more than, his own.
He stared. Seconds ticked by. Finally the memory was pulled free, the barrier broken.
"...Ni...no?" The word, rusty with disuse, escaped his mouth.
The figure blinked once, twice, opened his lips. "You... remember?" it breathed, its voice filled with awe. "How...?"
